Super Gals

miyu_ran_aya.jpg

Plot

The series revolves around the kogal (also known as "gal") subculture in Japan. The title character, Ran Kotobuki (Kotobuki Ran in the English manga: CMX uses Japanese order while ADV uses Western order), is the self-proclaimed "world's greatest gal." As a teenager in Shibuya, she's determined to live out the gal lifestyle for the rest of her life, and she has gained a reputation as the most respected gal in all of Shibuya. However, she comes from a family of police officers - her grandparents, her parents, and her older brother are all officers, and her younger sister is set on following in their footsteps. Only Ran has other dreams, but even she has acquired their sense of justice and spirit.

As a result of it's reference to this lifestyle, ADV has given the series a 15+ rating (since many Americans unfamiliar with Japanese culture might see the lifestyle [especially the part of it pertaining to "enjo kosai"] as nothing more than prostitution, which is illegal in Japan).

Characters

  • Ran Kotobuki (Kotobuki Ran) -- She is the title character. Although she is a gal and dislikes authority, she has a strong sense of justice and affection for her friends. She has gained the reputation of being the fiercest gal in Shibuya, and she takes it upon herself to defend her territory against criminals, rival gals, and inconsiderate men. Not to mention the fact that she was once a good girl, she changed. She stands up to jerks and perverts. The reason why she became violent was because of all that training her dad gave her.
  • Miyu Yamazaki (Yamazaki Miyu) - Miyu is one of Ran's classmates and closest friends. She once was the leader of a "team" called the "Resistance." One day, Yamato saved her from a tough situation, and Miyu fell in love with him. Because of that, she left the life of crime and became a good girl in order to be Yamato's girlfriend.
  • Aya Hoshino (ÊòüÈáéÁðæ Hoshino Aya) - Aya is one of the top students in Ran's class, but she was secretly doing enjo kosai to earn money. Ran found out and confronted her about it, making her realize that she was doing the wrong thing (she insists she never "did it" with anybody), and since then, Aya became good friends with Ran and Miyu.
  • Gensomaden Saiyuki

It's also a story that balances the drama and adventure with humor and moments of deeper emotion, and I think its greatest strength lies in the developing relationship between the four friends, in how their story began 500 years ago, and how it's going to end.

    Gundam Seed/ Destiny

    Story: Hajime Yare, Yoshiyuki Tomino
    Director: Mitsuo Kukada
    Series Organization: Chiaki Morosawa
    Character Design: Hisashi Hirai
Mecha Design: Kunio Ogawara, Kimitoshi Yamane
    Art Director: Shigemi Ikeda
    Production: Sunrise

A conflict which started between the Earth Alliance [aka Naturals] and Zaft [aka Coordinators], which started because of economic troubles was clearly undecided. The two sides had no other choice, and war broke out. 11 months after this war started is when the timeline of Gundam SEED all begins. Heliopolis; a colony which is a 'neutral' colony was dragged into the war while Earth hid their secret mobile suits here. ZAFT mobile suit force raids Heliopolis and thus capturing all but 1 of the Gundams.

This series is truely one that has interesting twists and turns and seems to always have new things that will hit you out of no where. Character deveolpement is something that Gundam Seed seems to have plenty of... the characters are involved in various relationships and seem to not care about 'fighting' in general compared to some other series.

I'd recommend this Gundam series to everyone even if you're not exactly the greatest mecha fan, theres something for everyone.

    Death Note

    Plot

Light Yagami is a brilliant, but bored, high school student who resents the crime and corruption in the world. His life undergoes a drastic change when he discovers a mysterious notebook, known as the "Death Note", lying on the ground in the year 2003. The Death Note's instructions claim that, if a human's name is written within it, that person shall die. Light is initially skeptical of the Death Note's authenticity, believing it is just a prank. However, after experimenting with it and killing two criminals, Light is forced to admit that the Death Note is real. After meeting with the true owner of the Death Note, a Shinigami named Ryuk, Light seeks to become "the God of the new world" by passing his judgment on criminals.

Soon, the number of inexplicable deaths of reported criminals catches the attention of the International Police Organization and a mysterious detective known only as "L". L quickly learns that the serial killer, dubbed by the public as "Kira" (derived from the Japanese pronunciation of the English word "Killer"), is located in Japan. L also concludes that Kira can kill people without laying a finger on them. Light realizes that L will be his greatest nemesis, and a race to prove mental superiority between the two begins.
